During the winter season, we have been committed to promoting biathlon and fostering a sense of community through outdoor events. Despite the recent unfavorable weather conditions for snow sports in Hungary, we were thrilled to successfully organize an event in a cross-biathlon format. This approach not only adapted to the circumstances but also attracted a remarkable number of amateur participants, demonstrating the growing appeal of biathlon across the country.
In keeping with the holiday spirit, this event was themed around giving back to the community. As Barbara Petrahn, our General Secretary, explained, “The spirit of the holidays is about giving back. We wanted this event to reflect that by supporting a meaningful cause, uniting people in the joy of sports and the act of generosity.” Participants were invited to contribute to the Maltese Charity Service, with all donations directly supporting sports opportunities for individuals with disabilities. This initiative aligns perfectly with our mission of “Biathlon for All,” ensuring the sport is accessible to everyone, regardless of their abilities or circumstances.
It has also been heartening to see the growing interest in biathlon in Hungary. Many attendees shared their enthusiasm for the sport, with some noting how closely they have been following the World Cup series since the competitive season began. This excitement reinforces our belief in the potential of biathlon to engage people from all walks of life.
As we reflect on this successful event, we are optimistic about the future. We hope the next gathering will take place on snow, offering participants the opportunity to experience the sport in its most authentic form. Until then, we will continue working to promote Biathlon for All and inspire more people to join this vibrant and inclusive community.
