Belgian Cross Biathlon Championships bring two days of action to Liège

The Belgian Cross Biathlon Championships brought two days of summer biathlon action to Liège on 29–30 August 2026, combining trail running with optical and laser rifle shooting in a range of competition formats for different ages and levels.

Held at the Terril Batterie Ancien, the event formed part of the ongoing Biathlon 4 All activities in Belgium and offered an accessible way to experience biathlon away from the snow.

Saturday was dedicated to the Belgian Championships, featuring a mass-start format and forming part of the BDE Majors series. Depending on their category, participants competed over 6 or 10 km, completing two or four shooting stages in both prone and standing positions. Eight mass starts were scheduled throughout the day, with up to 50 participants in each race.

On Sunday, the focus shifted to team relays and young participants. Teams of three or four competed in relay races, with each athlete completing a 5 km trail course and four shooting stages.

The programme also included a dedicated Kids Run for children aged 7 to 12, making the event particularly accessible to the next generation. Young participants completed a 2 km course with four prone shooting stages, using supports and safe optical or laser equipment provided by the organisers.

All shooting equipment was available on site, allowing participants to take part without needing their own rifle and helping to make the competition accessible to newcomers as well as experienced athletes.

With competition opportunities ranging from children's races to the Belgian Championships, the weekend demonstrated the versatility of cross biathlon and provided another example of how Biathlon 4 All is helping bring the sport to new participants and new environments throughout Belgium.
