Biathlon joins the programme of the Donald Duck Games for the first time

Once a year, the city of Akureyri, Iceland, hosts the famous "Donald Duck Games". This year marks their 50th anniversary. The competitions are held in snowboarding, alpine skiing, and cross-country skiing. This year, for the first time, there will be a biathlon competition to celebrate the 50th anniversary of the games.

The biathlon will be held for the first time at the Donald Duck Games in Hlíðarfjall, Akureyri, on April 23. The competition starts at 2:30 p.m. The event will be a Super Sprint using the freestyle skiing technique. Shooting will be done in the prone position with supports. Each competitor has five shots at five targets in each shooting series. For each missed shot, 20 seconds will be added to the competitor's total time.

The categories and distances are as follows:

  • 11 years old (born 2014): 3 × 800 m and two prone shooting series. Execution: 1 lap – shoot, 1 lap – shoot, 1 lap to finish.

  • 12–13 years old (born 2013–2012): 4 × 800 m and three prone shooting series. Execution: 1 lap – shoot, 1 lap – shoot, 1 lap – shoot, 1 lap to finish.

  • 14–15 years old (born 2011–2010): 5 × 800 m and four prone shooting series. Execution: 1 lap – shoot, 1 lap – shoot, 1 lap – shoot, 1 lap – shoot, 1 lap to finish.

Zeroing practice shots will take place before the competition, from 13:30 to 14:00. Each competitor will have the opportunity to practice with a laser rifle before the competition begins. Instructors will be on site.

The prize ceremony will take place on April 24th at 19:00 in the sports hall.
