Merkushyna sisters inspire young athletes at Khust Biathlon Tournament
A biathlon tournament using Kiwi Precision laser rifles took place on 25 April 2026 at Karpaty Stadium in Khust, attracting young athletes, coaches and families from several regions of Ukraine.
The event was held with the participation of biathlon ambassadors Anastasiia and Oleksandra Merkushyna, whose presence added special significance to the competition and inspired the young participants.
The tournament welcomed 90 competitors, with guests travelling from Uzhhorod, Mizhhirya and the Ivano-Frankivsk region. Young athletes competed across three age categories:
2013–2014
2015–2016
2017 and younger
A total of seven coaches were involved in organising and supporting the project. The event was led by the project’s responsible coach, Iryna Merkushyna, together with a team of 12 referees who ensured the smooth running of the competition.
The tournament created a warm and family-friendly atmosphere, with not only children attending, but also many parents and relatives who came to support the young athletes. Adding to the celebratory spirit of the day, a local children’s performance group prepared a special welcome programme for participants and guests.
Organisers described the event as a major success, highlighting both the high level of participation and the growing interest in biathlon among children.
One of the most encouraging outcomes came immediately after the tournament, when four children signed up for biathlon training, demonstrating the event’s positive impact and its ability to inspire a new generation of athletes.
