Children at Ohmatdyt Hospital inspired by inclusive biathlon event
A special sports and rehabilitation event for children took place at the National Specialised Children’s Hospital “Ohmatdyt”, bringing young patients together with coaches and families as part of activities linked to the 25th Winter Olympic Games biathlon event.
The event was held at 2:30 pm in the Sports and Rehabilitation Hall on the 5th floor of Block E of the hospital’s main building, where children took part in active games designed to support recovery and boost confidence.
A key highlight of the programme was the introduction of laser biathlon rifles, allowing children to safely try the sport while developing coordination and focus.
“The rifles, being completely safe, allowed children to try shooting without fear, making the experience enjoyable and confidence-building. No fear, just fun!” - remarked Lily Budzulyak, national project coordinator for Biathlon 4 All.
She explained that the activity offered tangible benefits for rehabilitation and skill development.
“The activity proved highly beneficial for rehabilitation, supporting the development of motor skills, concentration, and overall coordination in young participants,” Budzulyak noted.
A total of 30 children participated in the event, accompanied by their parents, creating what organisers described as a warm and supportive environment.
Reflecting on the impact of the initiative, Lily Budzulyak highlighted the broader value of inclusive sport for young people: “This event demonstrates the positive impact of inclusive sports activities in fostering both physical and emotional development in children.”
The event was organised with the support of the Kyiv Federation, with coaching provided by Maria Kravchenko, Mykola Bashmakov, biathlon coach, and Dmytro Pokhylyi. Maria Kravchenko is also a student at the National University of Physical Education and a national-category referee.
