Families discover biathlon at Mount Hotham in Australia

Telemark Ski Club welcomed families and newcomers to a fun introduction to biathlon at Mount Hotham on 29 August, with the event supported by Biathlon Australia.

The activity was led by Australian biathlon legend Bob Cranage and Lynn Maree Cullen, both recent World Masters Biathlon medallists from Kontiolahti. Together, they introduced participants to the sport in a relaxed and welcoming environment.

One of the highlights of the day was a team relay involving everyone in attendance. The format combined timed shooting at the range with short ski loops on the remaining snow at Mount Hotham.

Teams first competed at the shooting range, with their shooting times determining the starting order for the skiing component. The fastest teams on the range earned the advantage of setting off first, adding a fun competitive element to the activity.

Katerina Paul, Biathlon 4 All Project Coordinator, said: “It was a really fun day, with everyone getting involved. It was a great opportunity to introduce families and new participants to biathlon in a relaxed and social environment.”
