First Biathlon Cup Event of the year in Iceland

More than 30 athletes took part in the first biathlon competition of the season, held in Akureyri on 7–8 February 2026. The event marked an exciting start to the winter calendar, bringing together competitors from across the country.

Participants competed in four age categories for men and women: 11–13 years, 14–15 years, 16–35 years, and 36 years and over. Race formats varied according to age, with skiing distances ranging from 3 × 800 metres for the youngest athletes to 5 × 1,000 metres for the senior categories. Competitors completed shooting stages in both prone and standing positions, testing not only speed on the course but also precision at the range.

Athletes represented clubs from Reykjavík (Ullur), Akureyri (SKA), Hólmavík (SFS) and Ólafsfjörður (SO), alongside several unattached competitors (Utan félags), highlighting the growing interest in the sport nationwide.
