“Following in the Footsteps of Olympians”

In Chernihiv, on Saturday, 30 May 2026, the regional summer biathlon competition “Following in the Footsteps of Olympians”, dedicated to International Biathlon Day, took place at the Yunist Specialized Youth Football School stadium.

Special guests at the biathlon celebration in Chernihiv included world-class Nordic combined stars, Honored Masters of Sport of Ukraine, medalists of World Championships, European Championships, and Biathlon World Cups, Nina Lemesh, Head of the National Olympic Committee of Ukraine Branch in Chernihiv Region, and Oksana Khvostenko, coach of the Ukrainian women’s national biathlon team.

Roman Bondaruk, Secretary General of the Biathlon Federation of Ukraine, also attended the event to wish the young athletes success and strong performances.

In total, 120 boys and girls from Chernihiv, Novhorod-Siverskyi, Baturyn, and Horodnia competed in the regional summer biathlon championships in the following age categories: born in 2016 and younger; 2015–2014; and 2013–2012.

The participants competed in sprint races and prone shooting events.

The winners in each age category were awarded diplomas and medals, while all participants received commemorative gifts from the Biathlon Federation of Ukraine. The event was organized by the Biathlon Federation of Ukraine, the Chernihiv Regional Biathlon Federation, the Department of Family, Youth and Sports of the Regional State Administration, and the National Olympic Committee of Ukraine Branch in Chernihiv Region.
