Children and teenagers from across the region gathered in Frassinoro, in the province of Modena, on 12 April for an engaging biathlon taster day that introduced many to the exciting combination of cross-country skiing and shooting.

The event welcomed participants from local cross-country clubs as well as complete beginners, offering an opportunity to try their hand at one of winter sport’s most demanding disciplines. Under the guidance of experienced instructors, attendees were introduced to shooting techniques in a safe and supportive environment.

A total of 11 of the youngest participants began with laser rifles, allowing them to develop confidence and accuracy. Meanwhile, 17 youngsters progressed to biathlon air rifles, and 10 older teenagers were given the chance to experience small-bore biathlon rifles — a highlight for many aspiring athletes.

In addition to shooting, participants also had the opportunity to try roller skiing, simulating the movement and endurance required in cross-country skiing during the off-season.

The day was marked by enthusiasm and curiosity, with many young attendees discovering a passion for biathlon for the first time. Organisers described the event as a great success, noting its role in promoting the sport and encouraging wider participation among young people in the region.
