Georgia celebrates International Biathlon Day for the first time
This year, Georgia marked International Biathlon Day for the first time, joining more than 30 countries participating in the global celebration.
Organised by the Georgian National Biathlon Federation, the event took place in the resort town of Bakuriani and featured a variety of sporting and recreational activities. Participants enjoyed fun races, simulated training sessions, introductions to basic biathlon equipment, educational and entertainment activities, and a dedicated photo area. Alongside school pupils, young athletes and amateur sports enthusiasts also took part in the sporting programme.
The event dedicated to International Biathlon Day was officially opened by Mamuka Khabareli, President of the Georgian National Biathlon Federation. In his address, he spoke about the steps being taken to develop the sport in Georgia and highlighted the importance of engaging young people in biathlon.
A key milestone in the development of biathlon in Georgia has been the creation of modern infrastructure in Bakuriani.
In 2025, construction was completed on a 3.5-kilometre biathlon course built to international standards. The venue hosted the biathlon competitions of the Bakuriani 2025 European Youth Olympic Winter Festival, marking a new stage in the development of the sport in the country.
