The Hungarian Ski Federation has brought an active summer season to a close and is now moving into the school year with new initiatives designed to broaden the reach of biathlon across the country.
On 20 September, the Federation staged its latest promotional event in Budapest, where more than 400 people were able to experience biathlon for themselves. These open days often include light competitions, which are proving increasingly popular as more amateur participants return for repeat involvement.
Local biathlon clubs are heavily engaged in such occasions, playing a vital role in both the organisation and their core mission of athlete recruitment. Their grassroots work is seen as a cornerstone of long-term development.
The Federation also works closely with Biathlon Fans Hungary, the official national fan club. The group has become a passionate ambassador for the sport, supporting events at home while also representing Hungary at international competitions, where its members cheer on athletes from all nations.
With the academic year beginning, biathlon clubs have started visiting schools across Hungary. The initiative aims not only to inspire students to take up the sport but also to involve physical education teachers as partners in its delivery. While the programme is a long-term undertaking, the Federation is determined to make biathlon more widely known and accessible nationwide.
