Belgium will celebrate International Biathlon Day 2026 on 30 May at the Elsenborn National Biathlon Stadium with an afternoon and evening programme dedicated to introducing biathlon to the public and celebrating the Belgian biathlon community.
From 14:00 to 16:00, visitors of all ages will have the opportunity to discover biathlon through introductory activities led by Belgian international biathletes. The programme will continue from 16:00 to 19:00 with additional activities for young participants and a special shooting challenge bringing together Olympic biathletes, cross biathletes, and athletes from various sports.
The competition format will include several rounds leading to a final, with biathletes competing in prone and standing shooting using .22 calibre rifles, while guest participants will take part in adapted shooting activities.
The event will conclude with an official closing ceremony recognising volunteers and celebrating the contribution of Peter Thome on the occasion of the end of his career. The programme will also include the presentation of the Best Young Athlete Award for the 2025–2026 season.
Through this celebration, Belgium aims to promote biathlon, encourage youth participation, and strengthen connections between athletes, clubs, volunteers, and the wider community.
