Iceland will celebrate International Biathlon Day 2026 on 30 May with a nationwide “Biathlon for Everyone – Discover a New Sport!” initiative led by biathlon clubs across the country. The main event will take place in Akureyri from 12:00 to 15:00, welcoming children, parents, and local communities to discover biathlon in a fun, safe, and inclusive environment.

Participants will have the opportunity to try laser rifle target shooting, learn the basic techniques of biathlon, and take part in specially designed obstacle courses and activity stations focused on movement, coordination, and agility. A fun introduction to biathlon combining running and laser shooting will be one of the highlights of the programme.

The event will feature a festive family atmosphere with music, games, and community activities throughout the afternoon. All participants will receive a digital participation certificate with a QR code linking to information about Icelandic biathlon clubs, training opportunities, and registration details.

Mini-biathlon competitions will take place from approximately 14:00 to 15:00 for several age categories, including Under 10, Under 12, Under 14, and 16 years and older.

Through this initiative, Iceland aims to promote healthy lifestyles, encourage participation in sport, and support the long-term development of biathlon by inspiring children, youth, and families to become part of the biathlon community.
