Italy will celebrate International Biathlon Day 2026 with the event “Biathlon meets Giro d’Italia”, taking place on Friday, 29 May 2026 in Aviano, Friuli Venezia Giulia, as part of the international IBU promotional initiative “Biathlon 4 All”.

From approximately 09:30 to 17:30, the “Oriana Fallaci” Park in Aviano will host a full day of sport, movement, and interactive activities designed to introduce children, families, and the general public to the world of biathlon in a fun and accessible way. In case of bad weather, activities will be transferred to the “Visinai” Sports Center.

The programme will feature laser rifle shooting activities, agility and coordination courses, and introductory biathlon experiences allowing participants to safely discover the excitement of the Olympic discipline. The event is designed for all age groups and aims to combine physical activity, inclusion, and community engagement in a festive atmosphere.

The event takes place alongside the arrival of the penultimate stage of the Giro d’Italia in nearby Piancavallo, creating a unique connection between two major sporting traditions and helping to build excitement ahead of the Milano Cortina 2026 Olympic Winter Games.

Special guests are expected to include Italian biathlon representatives Dominik Windisch and Nicola Romanin, who will support the initiative and help inspire young participants through athlete interaction and demonstrations.

Organised under the patronage of the Municipality of Aviano and in cooperation with local sports partners, the event forms part of the broader “Piancavallo 2026” project promoting winter sports and grassroots participation in biathlon.

Through this initiative, Italy aims to promote active lifestyles, introduce new audiences to biathlon, and strengthen the connection between elite sport, local communities, and the next generation of winter sports participants.
