International Biathlon Day 2026 in Portugal
Portugal will celebrate International Biathlon Day 2026 on 30 May with a full-day “Biathlon for All” event taking place at the Covilhã Sports Complex from approximately 10:00 to 17:00.
Organised by FDI-Portugal together with the International Biathlon Union (IBU), the event forms part of the global Biathlon 4 All initiative, which aims to bring biathlon beyond traditional snow venues and introduce the sport to local communities through accessible and inclusive activities.
The programme will feature summer biathlon experiences using safe laser and optical rifles, allowing children, families, beginners, athletes, and para-athletes to discover the excitement of biathlon in a safe and welcoming environment. Physical activities will be adapted to different formats including running, cycling, inline skating, and walking, making participation accessible to people of different ages and abilities.
Throughout the day, visitors will be able to take part in open “Try-It” zones where anyone can experience shooting at biathlon targets for the first time through guided introductory sessions and interactive activities.
Special guests and ambassadors expected at the event include Olympic biathlete Victoria Padial, international coach Alexandre Nappa, and Portuguese cross-country skier Filipe Cabrita, who will share their experiences, provide demonstrations, and inspire young participants throughout the day.
The event will also serve as a recruitment and development opportunity for local clubs, helping identify new talents and encourage young participants to join biathlon training programmes and development schools.
Through this initiative, Portugal aims to promote healthy lifestyles, inclusion, youth participation, and grassroots development of biathlon while strengthening community engagement through sport.
