Kyiv City Biathlon Championships successfully conclude in the capital

The Kyiv City Biathlon Championships for boys and girls were held on 7–8 February 2026 in the capital of Ukraine, bringing together young athletes for two days of exciting competition, teamwork and sporting achievement.

The annual event gathered 75 young biathletes representing Kyiv City Sports Schools and Kyiv Regional Sports Schools. They were supported by 25 coaches and referees, as well as around 20 parents, creating a lively and supportive atmosphere throughout the championships.

The event was jointly organised by the Kyiv Region and the city of Kyiv. On behalf of the Kyiv region, the project was managed by coach Alesya Novitska, while the Kyiv city side was led by young coach Mariia Kravchenko, a participant of the IBU First Level Coach Course.

Their cooperation highlighted a strong focus on youth development and modern coaching practices within Ukrainian biathlon.

The championships took place at the official venue located at 2 Yahidna Street, Kyiv.

Two Days of Competition

Over two days, participants tested their speed, endurance and coordination through sprint races and mixed relay competitions, with events organised by age category.

Saturday, 7 February 2026 – Sprint Races

The opening day featured individual sprint events for both boys and girls:

  • Boys born in 2013–2014: 1.5 km sprint

  • Girls born in 2013–2014: 1.5 km sprint

  • Boys born in 2015 and younger: 1.2 km sprint

  • Girls born in 2015 and younger: 1.2 km sprint

These races highlighted determination and individual performance over short but demanding distances.

Sunday, 8 February 2026 – Mixed Relay

The championships concluded with mixed relay races, emphasising teamwork and collective effort:

  • Boys and girls born in 2013–2014: 2 × 400 m + 2 × 400 m

  • Boys and girls born in 2015 and younger: 2 × 400 m + 2 × 400 m

The relay events provided an energetic and competitive finale, with teams racing together towards the finish line. The Kyiv City Biathlon Championships once again demonstrated their importance in developing young talent, fostering a love for winter sport, and supporting the future of biathlon in Ukraine.
