Norway inspires the next generation on International Biathlon Day
To celebrate International Biathlon Day 2026, Norway organised three youth-focused events between 30 and 31 May in Sandnes, Oslo, and the Trondheim region, introducing children and young athletes to biathlon through fun, active, and engaging experiences.
Designed for participants under the age of 15, the events focused on making biathlon accessible and enjoyable while encouraging young people to develop an interest in the sport.
In both Sandnes and Oslo, athletes from the Norwegian national biathlon teams joined the celebrations as athlete ambassadors, taking part in training sessions, demonstrations, and interactive activities alongside the young participants. The event near Trondheim also centred on youth engagement and included support from experienced figures within the Norwegian biathlon community.
Across all three locations, the programme combined elements of a traditional biathlon training camp with games, social activities, and entertainment. Participants had the opportunity to try introductory shooting exercises, develop movement and coordination skills, and take part in group training sessions adapted specifically for children and beginners.
By bringing together young athletes, role models, and local biathlon communities, the events showcased Norway’s commitment to youth development and helped inspire a new generation to discover the excitement of biathlon.
