Ruhpolding celebrates International Biathlon Day with fans, future athletes and German biathlon stars
The Chiemgau Arena Ruhpolding opened its doors to biathlon fans, families, and aspiring young athletes on 14 June 2026 for a special celebration of International Biathlon Day, held under the motto “Biathlon for All”.
Organised by the German Ski Association (DSV) and the Ruhpolding training centre, the event aimed to bring biathlon closer to the public and inspire the next generation of athletes through a day of interactive activities and athlete engagement.
From 10:00 to 14:00, visitors of all ages had the opportunity to experience biathlon first-hand. The programme featured public biathlon activities, shooting experiences with laser rifles, air rifles, and small-bore rifles, free guided tours of the Chiemgau Arena, and exhibition races showcasing the excitement of competition.
The event was designed to appeal to everyone - from dedicated biathlon supporters to curious newcomers and families looking for an active day out. Visitors were able to explore the venue, learn more about the sport, and gain a behind-the-scenes look at one of the world's most renowned biathlon stadiums.
A major attraction was the opportunity to meet some of Germany's best-known biathletes. Franziska Preuß, who first discovered biathlon through a talent identification event in Ruhpolding, returned to the place where her sporting journey began. She was joined by Philipp Nawrath, Johannes Kühn, Simon Schempp, Denise Herrmann-Wick, and Marlene Fichtner for a special autograph session that proved highly popular with fans.
The presence of athletes representing different generations of German biathlon provided a unique opportunity for young participants to meet their sporting role models and learn more about the pathway from grassroots participation to elite competition.
With refreshments available throughout the day and activities suitable for all ages and ability levels, the event successfully celebrated the spirit of Biathlon 4 All, demonstrating that biathlon is a sport that can be enjoyed by everyone.
