Slovenia brings biathlon to the heart of Ljubljana on International Biathlon Day

On 30 May 2026, Slovenia celebrated International Biathlon Day with a public event at BTC City Ljubljana, held outdoors in front of the Odiseja cinema.

The event brought biathlon into a lively urban setting, giving children, families, young people, and visitors the chance to discover the sport in an accessible and engaging way.

Throughout the day, participants took on the Biathlon Circuit, testing their speed, accuracy, and concentration through running and laser shooting challenges. The best performers earned a place in a special final showdown against members of the Slovenian national biathlon team.

“It was a very pleasant, good-vibe event,” said Polona Klemenčič. “Moving International Biathlon Day from Pokljuka to Ljubljana helped attract even more people and introduce them to biathlon. It was great to see the excitement of the children as they tried laser shooting and competed in the circuit.”

The programme also included a Meet & Greet with Slovenian biathletes, giving fans the opportunity to take photos, collect autographs, and meet their sporting heroes in person.

With its mix of competition, fun, and athlete interaction, the event successfully brought biathlon closer to the public and showcased the sport’s appeal beyond its traditional winter venues.
