This autumn, Norway's biathlon recruitment initiatives have seen significant success, with a focused effort on reviving inactive biathlon clubs. By targeting specific clubs for extra support, the project aims to boost grassroots biathlon activity and community engagement.
One notable success story is the biathlon club of Vebjørn Sørum. Three years ago, this club had only three athletes. Through collaborative meetings, a strategic plan was established to guide its revival. Over the past three years, the club has worked to reconnect with the local community, including visits to 4-5 local schools, participation in multiple events, and media appearances featuring Vebjørn Sørum himself. Vebjørn has also taken an active role in training sessions to inspire young athletes.
This project exemplifies Norway's commitment to strengthening biathlon from the grassroots level, helping local clubs become active and vibrant centers for future athletes.
