Switzerland celebrates International Biathlon Day with inclusion and youth engagement
On 30 May 2026, Switzerland marked International Biathlon Day with two events in Zug and Chur, bringing biathlon to new audiences through activities focused on inclusion, participation, and youth development.
Special Olympics National Games – Zug
In Zug, biathlon was featured as part of the Special Olympics National Games, one of the country's largest sporting events, bringing together around 1,800 athletes alongside supporters, families, and spectators from across Switzerland.
Throughout the day, visitors had the opportunity to discover biathlon through drop-in activities and laser shooting sessions in an open and welcoming environment designed to be accessible for participants of all abilities. The event highlighted the inclusive values of sport and demonstrated how biathlon can be enjoyed by everyone.
Youth Shooting Festival – Chur
At the same time, a second celebration took place in Chur during a Youth Shooting Festival, attended by approximately 400 young participants aged between 10 and 20.
Alongside their regular shooting competitions, participants were invited to experience biathlon by testing their shooting skills under physical load and learning more about the sport through interactive activities. The event provided a unique introduction to biathlon and showcased the combination of endurance, concentration, and precision that makes the sport so distinctive.
