Three-day junior camp at the new Biathlon Australia Nordic facility concludes in Jindabyne
The three-day junior camp at the new Biathlon Australia Nordic facility in Jindabyne, New South Wales was successfully carried out in the month of September. It was fantastic to see around 15 young athletes come together for the camp and make use of the new roller ski track and new laser rifle range with some of our new laser rifles.
For many of the kids, this was their first opportunity to train in a facility like this, and it was amazing to see their confidence grow over the three days. The athletes spent plenty of time out on the roller ski track, working on their technique and skills, getting more comfortable with the loops and, particularly, building confidence on the downhills.
They also spent time on the range developing their shooting skills and learning how to combine the skiing and shooting elements of biathlon.
Katerina Paul, B4A Project Coordinator, said:
"We had a great mix of athletes, with some returning for their second Biathlon Australia junior camp and others attending for the first time. A number of the new athletes came across from cross-country skiing, which was particularly exciting to see as we continue to introduce more young skiers to biathlon. It was a really positive three days and a great example of what can be achieved when young athletes have access to the right facilities, coaching and opportunities to try biathlon in a fun and supportive environment."
Coach Toscha Stopar said:
“It was a great camp at the new facility in Jindi. A bunch of very enthusiastic young athletes who came from many places. They worked together with new friends and had lots of fun refining skills and learning new ones. I loved their enthusiasm, attitude and energy towards every task, especially the challenging ones. Lots of talent and future stars of Biathlon here."
