Volodymyr School hosts exciting youth biathlon tournament

A lively sporting event took place at Volodymyr School on 23 April 2026, where project coach Serhii Seniuk brought together 30 children aged six to seven for a specially designed sprint competition. The event featured a short-distance course of 150 metres, tailored to suit the young participants.

Serhii carefully adapted both the distance and the competition format to match the needs of each age group, ensuring that the activities supported the children’s development in an appropriate and engaging way. Despite their young age, the primary school pupils showed great enthusiasm, taking part with energy, curiosity and enjoyment throughout the event.

The organisers emphasised that biathlon can be both enjoyable and beneficial for children’s health, offering a dynamic way to encourage physical activity from an early age. The school’s director, Iryna Kostiuk, also played an active role, providing support and assistance throughout the competition.

Such initiatives are believed to contribute significantly to the professional development of coaches. By working with different age groups and adapting to varied conditions, coaches can strengthen their communication and teamwork skills while identifying and nurturing promising young athletes.

Lily Budzulyak, B4A Project Coordinator in Ukraine, remarked: "Introducing children to biathlon at an early age provides an excellent opportunity to engage and motivate them in a fun, accessible and meaningful way."
