Young participants discover biathlon and roller skiing in Leonessa
The historic centre of Leonessa came alive with biathlon and roller skiing on Sunday, 23 August, as local families, tourists and sports enthusiasts gathered for a day dedicated to discovering winter sports.
Organised by Sci Club Leonessa for the second consecutive year, the event transformed Corso San Giuseppe into a long activity area where visitors could try roller skiing free of charge. The initiative attracted a large number of participants, including tourists from Rome and other regions of Italy as well as members of the local community.
Biathlon was also an important part of the programme, with laser rifles giving visitors the opportunity to experience shooting in a safe and accessible environment. Children in particular showed great enthusiasm, with many taking the chance to discover biathlon and test their skills on the shooting range.
Maria Antonia Brighetti, a coach with the FISI Lazio Regional Committee, was on site to provide expert guidance and introduce participants to the different activities.
Tommaso Ciavatta, President of Sci Club Leonessa, was delighted with the response to the event.
“We are very satisfied with the day. The event attracted strong participation, but what pleased us most was seeing the enthusiasm and involvement of so many people – skiers and newcomers of all ages,” he said.
Ciavatta also thanked the regional organisations, local authorities and everyone involved in making the event possible, highlighting the atmosphere of community created throughout the day.
The successful event once again demonstrated how accessible formats such as laser biathlon can bring the sport directly into town centres and give children and families the opportunity to experience biathlon for the first time.
